Primary 2.0

Skipping between CNN, MSNBC and FOX on cable TV, I feel like I’m watching the NBA Finals, game 7, with less than 30 seconds to go with a tie game! There is even a running scoreboard that does not go away during commercials! Then, looking to the Internet, sites like NewsJunk.com feed the fire. Here are some marketing lessons from these news sources to be learned from this historic day.

1. Keep Them Guessing

Make a bold statement, then provide a conflicting report within the next few minutes.

2. Make Your Viewer Sick with Lots of Motion Graphics.

All the rotating, flashing and transitions are making me dizzy. What I enjoy most is the CNN touch screen used to graphically portray the current delegate vote results.

3. Practice Your Various Faces

You must have the following three faces in your arsenal (and be ready to change quickly based no the question): Surprised, concerned and fake smile (combined with fake laugh).

4. Carry A Clipboard

Wolf Blitzer is always ready to take notes. Even though he has the pen poised and ready, I’ve not yet seen him write anything.
